Does anyone know, Does Downies still have all 20 of their sets? Has anyone bought one? I am seriously pondering but the price is over the top. It's possible this could be the investment of the century if you're willing to take that punt and have a spare 2k hidden in the mattress.

Not me harrisjk.....2K is serious money to take a punt with. I am on "bread & water only" for the rest of the year... Seriously, where the RAM has made this mistake, I find it hard to accept that only 20 were minted and packaged and Downies has them all.

I sell a few but hey I have mentioned somewhere else the Controller of the Royal Australian Mint has resigned or has been asked to resign. These sets where meant to be destroyed as also let me mention these where available late last year. Now how did just one Australian dealer just have 20 sets and there was none by other dealers. There seems to be a bad smell as I smell a rat here and I'm sure that others would too. If there were an error thaey would have been destroyed now 2k for a set is over the odds and If there were more of these and got destroyed. We know one dealer has them the Federal Police should step in a confiscate all these sets and further action may be taken as only one dealer has these. Also latest advert saying that the 2005 roo is a mule another misleading advert to push the sale. Why dont they list one on ebay and see what the market value really is.

I dont believe they are sold out as they must of stashed them in the safe and just said they have sold out.A common trick from dealers and later when prices rise there back in the market at a higher premium

Is there a suggestion of a link between change of Controller of RAM and the issue of the extraordinary 2006 Proof Set with special $1 ?

I know of 4 aussiecoin forum members who bought one of the 20. No doubt there are 16 others somewhere in the world who also wanted one. Others may surface, but I have absolutely no doubt that Downies' 20 were sold. I'm glad they didn't go onto ebay. Unlike some, I don't have a sniper IMHO the push to have them auctioned on ebay is not so that the market can set a price, but simply that buyers get the warm and fuzzies that they may be getting a good deal. I thought long (well obviously not that long) and hard and finally decided that one of these was a 'must have', both as a collector primarily and an investor. To paraphrase an aussiecoinform member, "whilst a reasonable amount of money, it isn't a die in a ditch amount if the price fails to go west".

I have made my research as they have been sold out mostly in Melbourne as they had most of the sets as Sydney had a small handfull of these. I guess the ones that missed out we will have to wait and see If some crop up from other resources
