In the past few years it seems that it has become increasingly more difficult to obtain new rolls of circulation coins from banks. I have visited a number of banks (local and out of town) and always seem to get the same answer. Banks are not ordering new rolls of coinage because they have an excess of circulated coins coming back in from customers. I know the RCM always produces special wrap rolls for sale to the public. However, when it comes to purchasing special wrap rolls as opposed to new rolls intended for circulation, I am somewhat indifferent. In fact, I am more concerned about cost than fancy wrapping paper. I believe that banks are ordering their coinage from security companies like Brinks, for which they pay a service fee. As a result banks don't like to order in new coinage because they actually lose money doing it. Has anyone else had the same experience with their local bank? Any tips/secrets/suggestions that you can share?

I'm in the same boat. I've been to my banks (BoM and Royal) asking about KCIII rolls, and usually get the same response - either "we don't order coins" or "they may come in, but it's random". Get friendly with one of the tellers and you may get lucky. I would love to get my hands on a complete set of KCIII circulation rolls, but it's looking bleak right now. Somebody must be getting them, because some sellers on ebay are flogging Twoonie, 25-cent and 10-cent rolls ( from BC BTW). Want as I may I won't be buying any off ebay ( Twoonie roll - $85 + $22 shipping + 5% GST + 10% QST - FORGET IT!)

In Northern On. I have been getting that same answer for a few years now. The big city's get the new rolls , us little city's get none. I'm still looking for the coloured Loonie's and Toonie's.from 2 years ago, may get some from tourists when they come up north.

Nothing to do with big cities vs small cities. I live in Vancouver and have the same problem in getting rolls from banks. Given the increasing cashless society, banks don't carry the amount of cash or coins they used to do. They have enough coins from personal/business deposits to meet needs. In case they need coins, they order from companies like Brinks or GardaWorld. They don't order from the RCM because it may take take weeks for the orders to arrive whereas Brinks can provide next day service. Of course, finding newer coins in circulation is easier in bigger cities because of the higher population. But still difficult to find rolls.

I had a vision over 20 years ago when they were talking of getting rid of the penny. I stocked up what ever new coins I could get my hands on of all denominations. Now retired gives me the time to go through some, what ever I find will be mint state,

I have been keeping all nickels and bronze cents from my change down here without really paying attention to the specifics. I suppose I can go through them and "look for treasures" when I retire ~15 years from now.

I hear the same thing in Toronto. Make friends with someone who works at Brinks. Still hoping the RCM does a coin exchange near me, but not going to hold my breath. Meanwhile, if any of you get rolls, spread the love and I'll do the same.

It's somewhat surprising that the increase in Canada's population and the ARP program hasn't resulted in an increased demand for new coinage. I think you're right, people just aren't using cash like they used to. Quote: I would love to get my hands on a complete set of KCIII circulation rolls, but it's looking bleak right now. I guess it's all about supply and demand. The large coin dealers seem to be having trouble keeping these coins in stock and as a result of the "shortage", it's driving the price up.

Most of those came from the coin exchanges they had, but you could only get one set per person. I tried to get more but couldn't.

I hunt rolls on the weekends and I haven't seen new rolls of any denomination for years, until recently when I came across brand new rolls of 2022 dimes. Went through about 30 rolls and I found nothing special.
