Pulled this Benjamin right out of its original proof packaging. It has this weird black mark in the center of a toned circle.

The little black line almost looks ashy as if it was burned. The packaging looked untouched.

Any thoughts as to what caused it?

Looks like some kind of contaminant that leached outwards onto/into the metal. I'm sure there is no way to remove it without ruining the proof surface. That's too bad as it looks to be a very nice Proof Franklin otherwise.

Very interesting. I'd keep it as a fun curiosity.

I saw this ofend. Apparently it is from packaging for those in poly package. I never had one in my Lab to test.

An unfortunate spot that likely cannot be removed.

to the CCF Whatever it is , it started out as the dark area in the middle of the spot and grew from there. QC was not even a thing back then. And as stated above, it's permanent.
