Every once in a while, I encounter a strange nickel while CRH. Ever since geno proposed that the common FS nickel chip could be the new BIE, I have been checking the initials while examining 2006-2022 nickels for line-in-door DDRs. As a result, I found this bizarre 2007-P nickel while appears to suffer from serious Die Deterioration and also possibly a weak hubbing, heavy polishing, or a Grease Filled Die. Only the faintest ghost of the S can be seen, and no F.

First image is the missing FS, second image is a normal nickel for context, third pic is the date to demonstrate that all the other obverse and reverse lettering is normal (with a LDS). I will snap a full coin image pair tomorrow, but I don't currently think it's going to show anything mind blowing.

Very cool find Brandmeister. I like how the S is barely there.

In sufficiently harsh light, I can get a wisp of the S to reappear. So I guess we can't call this a "no FS" nickel. The F just appears gone, though.

Although this is a late die state, I think this might be a polishing issue. You can see that the right arch in Monticello is much shallower than the left one. The lettering in America seems unaffected. Maybe someone just got overzealous while polishing the die?
