I have a 1982-D penny with a coiled 9. I can't find anything like this to reference. Does anyone know if this is a date Type or an error?

to the CCF, Maleficent_Bag87! To me it looks like the 9 is damaged, just as there are hits on the 1, 8, and D.

I'm with Hondo - pretty obvious hit that also affected the 1. Do you know how much this cent weighs perchance?

Definitely damage and not a die chip. The loop of the 9 has been pushed in.

@Bump, I don't know how much it weighs. Is something like that important? If so, could anyone recommend a good scale?

I check every 82 D small date looking for the elusive copper version.

Maleficent_Bag87, If you plan on getting into the hobby a scale is important and posting better than average photos will help you a lot. You will also need a Jewlers Loope.Your full coin pic is fine but your close up is blurry. Your coin is a 1982-D small date zinc. The 9 looks like a plating blister to me.The mint mark and the 1 looks like PMD. John1
