I believe this is the Comet quarer but I have been wrong frequently. Confirmation is appreciated. The lighting on these is not the best but I am learning more. All photos taken with cell phone or Nikon D90.

The Sally Ride Quarter has an image that is a result of a clash with Georges profile on obverse. I am making sure others see it as I do.

Anyone who wants to jump in here, please do.
The clash causes a hazy image of wht is known as the comet. It is over her right shoulder and continues across the quarter.

If it's a clash, wouldn't George's nose be in the area of EPU, earth and America?

Hopefully someone will jump in here with a better explanation but Georges head (the back of his head would cause the clash. I am a novice wth quarters but I have a lot of clashed Morgans.

Really need clear closeup photos to see what you are
seeing. I do see the Hazy Area but.....
"Comet Quarter" sounds like so many other ebay terms for something like this.
Not really a mint error of any kind..

A front-to-back image overlay might help us here.

Proper terminology is ghost comet I think. ButI'm pretty sure I have it wrong. I'll keep checking.

This has been discussed on CCF before - see link below with overlays. OP's quarter does look like what others are calling the "Ghost Comet". A quick internet search shows quite a few for sale, from $8 to $900, although ebay completed listings are mostly in the 50 cents - $1.50 range (one at $1500?).
They're usually described as a "major error", although no one bothers to tell exactly what the error is.
