just wondering what everyone feels about the coin shows on TV. I have to ask because. I watch them just to see how much buffalo chips they are shoveling. you know get the ultra rare 2006 Lincoln Penny only 100 dollars yea think about it , it has only happened once the year 2006 that is. And they always say catalogues list as ( a certain amount ) an they show it I have not yet seen the catalouge they go buy.

As with any other venue of coin buying......know what you are buying and exercise caution before purchasing anything......many, many lower end items are way over priced and are far too common to pay the higher premiums for them........but some of the higher end certified coins I have seen on there are not too far out of the realm of possibility.....but I would stay with a known reccommended TPG!

I suppose they are the same as antque TV shows.
Watch and take in what they same (in some cases) but value wise...take this information with a grain of salt.
Interesting to watch but thats about it!

I watched ONE of those--with the Red Book in-hand, and just about fell out of my Lazy-Boy. I did manage to spit up O'Douls once, after they mentioned a price tag of "ONLY $199" for a 1996 Mint Set. Not even proofs. Laughable.

I must admit I watch the coinn vault almost every Monday for a few minutes. I have no intection of buy since almost all of there stuff is about 3X the value. I watch them mainly because it give me a good idea of what people are collecting since more then likley they are not going to show something that doesn't sell well. Also I do supose it might be good for someone who doesn't trust ebay. or have a coin shop close buy since it does give you a lot of different thing to chose between. I do no alot of older poeple that like coins but will not go onto the computer so for them it is easyer to pick up the phone and buy one of there deals even if is high also for some they don't mind paying a little more for convince. but must say I do watch them but would never buy from them.

This is America and one can charge whatever they choose for their material ,but I believe shows like Coin Vault and Treasure hunter hurt the hobby by insinuating that the coins will? go up in value. How long would you have to wait for appreciation to kick in to even get your money back? They ask exorbitant prices while telling you that you are getting a good deal. This is false and misleading.Any one with a minimum of knowledge knows that there are no good deals. As a famous man once said;'There's a sucker born every minute' 'I pity the fool'.sorry, two different quotes from two different men!!

Coin Country is a hoot to watch and cheaper than the other guys. You can actually call in and negotiate a price live!. Coin Vault is the Littleton's of TV!LOL...Littletons however has some very good qualities, though they are quite expensive. Mike

Are these TV shows like a talk show commercial for selling their coins? The costs to be on TV are expensive. If they are trying to break even, they would have to charge a high price or have a extremely large turnover.

You'd think there would be a 'hobby type' show on PBS or a like channel. Totally devoted to the aspects of the coin and not trying to sell you anything at rip-off prices. One can wish Ben

When I'm not into "Law and Order," "West Wing," or "24," Ill sometimes watch the coin shows. I do it because I like to look at the coins. I would never buy anything from the TV shows, just as I would never buy anything from those "Unbelievable" offers I get through the mail.

The last time I watched Coin Vault, they were selling "gem BU uncirculated" gold-plated State Quarters. Since the plating alters the coin and it's no longer Mint State, how can it be "gem BU uncirculated"? These were the exact words said. I find the TV coin shows to be rather frightening and it makes me sad to think about all the people who buy from these shows and are wasting their money because they won't take the time to learn before buying.

I never saw Coin Country! That one at least sounds interesting. You can really negotiate a price on live TV? Where do they have this show. I would love to check it out!

i will have to check out coin country that does sound cool. true toast Tv does cost money, so the consumer cost will reflect that. It is not the cost so much I think its the False hype used to sell the coins, and the complete lies. but that is just my thought

Yes you can call in and haggle price! They only broadcast live, and rather late at night. Here is a link to the website and you can find the broadcast schedules there. There are not quite as pricy as Coin Vault and the selection is better. They move very fast so you have to write down item numbers to reference when you call in with an offer....Mike http://www.coincountry.com/
