I bought a potential FS-101 DDO 1946-P Walking Liberty in a PCGS slab. Any thoughts on if this is a FS-101 DDO? P.S. In response to John's comments below, the plastic is scuffed above the lower flag blurring details. I am adding a closeups of the lower flag to this post so the area can seen a bit better. For a resubmission, should I send the slab with a variation assessment request on the submission form? thanks, Mike PCGS Reference https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...s-101/145622VV Reference http://www.varietyvista.com/10%20Wa...6PDDO001.htm Edited by CentR 02/19/2024 11:22 am

Going by the pic of the lower flag, your coin does not match the DDO. Did I miss your 50 post milestone contest? John1

Thank you for the comments and good eye John. The plastic is scuffed above the lower flag bluring details. Here's closeups taken at an angle to try to avoid the scuffs. I'd love to know what you think if you happen back around. In case it is helpful, I'll post the images here and in the original post. In regards to turning 50, I was so excited I showed my wife, who was sweet enough to pretend to be excited too :).

For resubmission back to PCGS for reevaluation, do I just send it in the slab?

From the links provided, it should be clearly doubled along the right side of the flag. I'm not seeing that in your images, but you don't provide a closeup of that area. I wouldn't spend money on sending it in unless you're certain.

Check the bottom of the crossbar of the N of IGWT that should show a clear doubling, I don't see it on your coin, but you did not provide close ups of that area.

I am grateful for the input. I will get it under the scope tonight. Question regarding the N in IGWT. It looks like the center portion of the N in IGWT on the variety vista (VV) DDO may be an example of a DDO with some Machine Doubling. I say this because the IGWT on the PCGS examples is among the most comically and beautifully wide of any DDO of which I am aware. It's like Flintstones font. The coin on Variety Vista is a bit different than the PCGS examples. The center of the N has a shelf-like doubling that looks like it cuts into the metal making the letter narrower not wider. In case it is helpful, I've included the image from 2 PCGS examples and the coin on VV. I just realized I should have posted an image of mine too. I'm appending it now.

Do not crack this. Just simply call them for advice.

I can't comment on the variety, but I have sent in slabbed PCGS coins for them to add the variety. You send in the whole slab. In these cases I selected 'reholder' under 'service type' and 'service level'. Then select 'variety attribution' under 'add on services'. Be sure to note the variety you want added. Their 'true view' photos have gone downhill, but you could choose to have them image the coin as well if you want. This is all assuming you just want a variety added with no reconsideration of grade. As others have said, I would be sure you have the variety correct before sending in though.

Here's a closeup of the upper flag. Thanks for the submission advice. I reached out to PCGS as suggested and they echoed your sentiment. "Thank you for reaching out to PCGS Customer Care. If you are just wanting us to check the variety service level to be looked into and not change the grade, you can submit this for a reholder and request the variety service. If you have any other questions, please let me know."

This series is out of my wheelhouse but I do notice in the closeup images you shared quite a few die dents around the I (IN). The first PCGS image has two to the west and your coin has one directly above the "I" and one on the base of it (unless that is a hit).
Unless some of these are markers for a different stage, it seems like these two wouldn't be the variety.
