Sorry if this question has been asked before. I got a $500 bag of loose half dollars from the local branch today. I have my suspicions about whether it's a dump or not, but have started going through them nonetheless. So far, I have found 7 NIFCs (2002-2022) in 7 rolls' worth; no 1987's or 1970-D's so far. I have a couple of questions:

1. Are NIFCs supposed to be this common, or is it just this bag I got?
2. Are NIFCs worth keeping? I've seen different answers and debates online. I've also seen circulated ones selling for over $1 on ebay (plus shipping). Curious as to what people think in 2024.

Cheers!

I have rolls of them in mixed years and MM from my roll searching efforts. I've tried selling them on several occasions but never get more than $1.25-$1.50 each for them.

I personally keep them, but there are others who probably toss them back.

There are dealers who buy bags & rolls, put the good ones in 2x2s for their customers building sets and spend the dogs.

I agree with Strauss I have kept mine for my own collection and have found uncirculated original mint rolls CRHing which I will eventually go through and put the real gems in 2x2's of course retaining the very best for my collection and others for anyone in my coin club who need them for their collections.

I would say yes as browsing the pcgs price guide shows that high condition examples can have added value, perhaps a good opportunity to start learning how to identify what might be a gem 65 or higher condition to start and set those aside. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/detail/.../most-active

Note that there are grading fees which may equal or exceed the graded values but over time the values may increase in some cases. So some people just sell them on places like ebay for a minor profit instead of keeping. There are also errors and varieties to learn about, some are in the strike it rich with pocket change book to start but others may be found to look for on the websites & forums to add.

Thank you for the replies so far. I went through another 10 rolls of Loomis half dollars, and found 19 NIFCs (almost a whole roll). A lot of 2018's and 2021's. Right now, I'm leaning towards sending these back, as collecting these could get expensive.

Cheers!
