This is one of my first Draped Bust Half Dollars, what do you think? The scratches are on the case and not the coin. Edited by Heymikep 02/22/2024 7:43 pm

I'm not good at grading this series but any silver draped bust coin is a winner in my book.

I'll split the above and roll with F15.
I had to sell my 1806 a couple of years ago and still greatly regret it.

Looks VF but the obverse shot doesn't show any detail in the face of liberty. Can we see a shot with more light in the obverse?

Let me know if this helps, there is not much detail in the face. I tried to adjust different settings to try and bring out more details.

I'm gonna be at F12 obv and VF20 reverse, net F15. The periphery of the obv suggests a higher grade but the center of the same suggests a lower grade. A nice classic coin nevertheless.

i would grade this coin way different than a TPG would. from what I've seen they rarely take weak strike into consideration. I'm looking at those stars, the bottom curl and the date on obv UNITED & AMERICA, arrows on the reverse and the leftmost stars and cloud. for me i'd grade it VF30. PCGS/NGC probably would call it F15 maybe VF20

I think they nailed it.

The strike weakness (or thin planchet) resulted in a partially struck up piece. Draped Bust coinage is awesome. This is not a good example though. That said, I imagine you were able to pick this for a reasonable price.
