Why-Is-This-1979-P-Susan-B.-Anthony-Golden-In-Color?

Hello everyone, this 1979 p Susan B. Anthony dollar coin has a golden color on the obverse and reverse. Does this represent a uniformly toned coin? Or, was it struck on a trial "Sacagawea" planchet or does this represent post mint damage from exposure to caustic chemicals?

I truly would greatly appreciate your expertise. Thank you in advance!

To CCF! It could toning of some sort. Coins can tone in many different ways, from environmental factors, and how they've been stored. It also might have been plated at one time and is now wearing off.

It looks like it's been plated based on the even coloring on both sides of the coin.

I agree with either natural toning or gold plating. What does the edge look like? Either way not a mint error.

I have seen some of these coin tone out to a gold color due to environmental conditions - I have also seen some that were intentionally plated or re-colored to a gold tint. In the latter case it would be a damaged coin.

Its most likely toned due to some chemical but also could be plated. Hard to tell from the picture. As far as I know there where a few Sacagawea released on Susan B Anthony planchets but only in 1999 and not the other way around. In 1979 the only planchet available was the copper/nickel one.

I meant what color is the edge?If it is gold, it most likely is gold plated,if it is copper/clad the coin has just toned that color.

The edge is copper clad. So, toning it is. I'll take it! Thanks.
