I'm not seeing any gas bubbles. It just looks like both sides were struck with unusually greasy dies.

IMO, the wavy lines suggest its been exposed to something acidic or a heat source.

I'm thinking acid exposure. Can't rule out a brief encounter with extreme heat. An accurate weight--to two decimal places--might tell us something.

Because of the waviness in the metal on the obverse it looks like heat from a type of blowtorch.
