Our State Mint is releasing a coin commemorating the solar eclipse that took place on wednesday (29th march 06)

Coin is Silver with the outer ring gold plated.
The center of the reverse is black, I find it kind of "odd"

Sorry Buddy, I don't like it.

I also find it odd. Turkey has produced so many nice coins in the past.

I think it's a dramatic coin very well done. The Corona of the sun shining around the black of the Eclipsed moon. And the date. A big black dot, that is what an eclipse is, lol. I like it.

Gold plated, how much does the Mint ask for these?

They are sold at face value 30 YTL (~same AUD)

I must see this one for real , pics may be misleading. Just seeing the pic, I give a 6/10 points:)

Couldn't find any info in the website, but I think it's like a coloured coin, The outer ring is selectively gold plated, black part must have some kind of paint on the surface.

It passed over middle Anatolia, since I'm in Istanbul, to the northwest, I only saw the sun 95% blocked by the moon. It wasn't even really dark here
In Istanbul it was like this (picture taken with filters):

I cant say as I like it either.......especially the reverse...looks too much like an old button....LOL......but I guess it is rather hard to come up with a outstanding design considering the subject material....

Interesting, Wow!
Turkey makes Commems for almost every event, its good to have such a great Mint, but I dislike the design there...

You're welcome.

Not that it's a big problem Don, but my name has an L at the end I guess you're one of those who think it's the initial of my last name
Rest in Peace

I envy you the eclipse.

I have had the thrill only once of observing a partial eclipse. Back in the 1970's, and I think it was something like 85 percent.

Sorry RenaL That's exactly what I assumed.

Gary,
I'm guessing you grew up on the easern seabord somewhere. In March, 1970, there was an eclipse which had a path of totality for much of the eastern US. I remember it well-my mother made pizza and had several of the neighborhood kids over to watch the pinhole image. We were fortunate enough to see a total eclipse (in eastern NC)
