Now retired, and having gone through two home downsizings, I now have the time and reason to scrutinize the 'stuff' we've accumulated through the years. Below are pics of a $2 educational series bill I honestly can't remember at which tag / estate sale we found it. It has been stowed away (along with a $1 1896 and other paper goods) for way too long! I have a modest collection of coins, but bills are beyond my hobby focus.

My first concern is whether this is authentic or not, as my google searching found very little regarding this series. I was able to identify this as a Fr.248 based on the signatures. (EDIT: after browsing this forum a bit - I see PMG frequently. Is that he best service for grading?)

Second, if there are no huge red flags suggesting it is not real US currency, what next? Should I get it graded, or post for sale raw? Is there a corollary grading service for paper as there is for PGCS and NCG for coins?

Thanks

Looks legit, maybe VG or F, deserves a slab. You can submit to PCGS-B through a dealer or directly to PMG if you are an ANA member.

I agree with Mr.Frog.
It's well worth the cost to have it authenticated, graded and encapsulated. I would go with PMG or PCGS if it was mine.

Thanks, all. I've been sitting on about a half dozen coins I think are worth grading, so I will probably do the PCGS membership and look into the paper grading option as well.

PS - Steve in Tampa (or anyone...) - while casually looking through the paper bills forum (to try to avoid sounding like I've never seen paper bills before) I searched BARR bills and saw some of your input from very old forums regarding them. My dad was a barber back in the 80's and collected over 900 Barr bills which I now have. All circulated - some more than others.

High level advice - what do I do with these? I think I might have already put them in serial number sequence (RetiredAF; BoredAF...) Thanks

The series 1963B $1 FRN, or Barr note have little value unless uncirculated, and even then, it isn't much. Millions were saved, many in full packs. Before selling my collection, I had an uncirculated example of every block, including the replacement notes. They were fun to collect but not a good ROI.

A dealer at a show had a stack of VF/XF Barr notes priced at $3 each. On the last day of the show he was handing them out as change.

It would be best to start a new thread on this issue, gets confusing given the Educational note header.
