1797 Two Pence coins are physically attractive, due to their size and weight. Their larger size, however, makes them difficult to put in an album.

They are made from pure copper which is soft, and thus they are highly subject to major edge bump and impact damage.

Quite valuable if free from above mentioned damage, and in EF or higher grades.

Yes - should be copper, but looks to have been substantially over-cleaned. It will tone down again in time.
The two pictures give a very different impression of colour. The first looks almost silver, the second brass - I suspect the camera is over-correcting. Try photographing again next to something modern and of know colour such as a new 2p coin.

It is also called a Cartwheel Penny due to it's large size. They all are dated 1797 only.

If it weighs one ounce it's a penny. If it weighs two ounces it's a twopence. They both have the same general appearance, though the twopence is about 40mm wide. Have fun!

@Liskay - My 1797 1P George lll Cartwheel is a dark copper colour and about 35 mm in diameter. It is much more worn than yours. Your coin has been heavily cleaned in the past.

If it's 35mm it's a Penny. If it's 40mm it's twopence.

such subtle changes to denote value - if in a rush you may not notice - or the ques may get so long as folks study their coins as to not pay too much..
