Well I bought a bunch of morgans and this was included
I know even less of Pds
It has a frosty tone, but weak strike. Au?

What would it take for this coin to grade ms? is it always signs of use that put coins in au instead of ms?
Or is it a combo?

Yes.
Always signs of wear.
By definition an MS coin can show no signs of wear.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Peace dollars will give you a headache grading them correctly. mainly strike issues are the problem. determining strike from wear on these typically requires in-hand analysis rotating the coin under the right lighting conditions.

I can't get this one to AU58 though. for me the strike is not there as well as the luster that you should see on a 58. i'd call her AU53
