This is the first and only coin I've asked about a grade.
I'd like to find out how the PCGS Photograde works.
If a coin obverse looks to be a 65 and reverse around 60.
What would the grade be?
Does a certain VAM make a difference in the grade if any?

Sorry. Hope these pictures are helpful.
The coin has so much glare I can't get the shine to show.
Had to cut the lighting way back.

What grade would say this is approximately?
Thank you for your input.

. Thank you for your help.
It's got to be old cleaning. I've had it since late 70's.

A lot of times they were stored in albums and when we were young we used to wipe down the obverses to make them prettier, the reverses were protected by the back side of the album. At least that was the case for me!

there are lot of considerations when grading especially using photograde. the only thing thats good for is it will get you to a general grade level faster. VF, XF, AU etc...

you need to look at everything going on.

for N.O. coins from the years 83(O) through 97(O) were soft or weakly struck. so some of what you see that could be considered wear most likely is strike related.

its difficult at best to get an accurate grade via photos let alone when glare from lighting is obscuring the surfaces

how much luster is remaining? A coin appearing to be high AU or MS is not going to be flat and dull unless something happened to the coin

look at the following high points for signs of handling (wear)

OBV
hair around ear
wheat fronds
top of cotton balls
leaf above TY
lower hair curls

REV
eagle neck
breast
wing tips
feathers on legs
bow under tail feathers

based on these components your coin is AU. all of the original surfaces on the obv have been removed with no remaining luster (glare may be an issue). I think paralyse may have hit the nail on the head regarding wiping the obv of the coin in an album

obv AU55/58 details cleaned. rev AU58. I can see it with one of two grades. AU55 straight or AU details (cleaned). I don't think whomever cleaned/wiped the coin did so in a harsh manner so I'm leaning AU55 straight
