Bought this at a flea market like 40 years ago.

Here is the true color of the coin. I had to adjust the image earlier because of ambient lighting. This is back in a 2x2.

Well, that's quite a change!

Revise opinion to AU details (ED).

AU details. Verdi-Care might help with those spots, on the reverse.

I was concerned about how the coloring came out but felt the details were more important at the time.

I'll have to pick some up. I don't think those spots were there when I bought the coin. But it was so long ago. It looks like it toned some over the last 40 years as well even though it was in a 2x2.

I would give it a Verdi-Care bath. Then come back and get it graded.

seeker if the coin was dipped at some point you probably would not have noticed the blotchy toning etc. if the coin was not rinsed properly over the decades it would have reacted to the environment causing what you see here. verdicare would clean up some of this however based on what I see there will still be some spotting and your not sure what it will look like under those verdigris spots. the diagonal scratches across the obv is from a more aggressive cleaning. soaking in verdicare may only enhance those. a common year which is available fairly cheap I probably would not mess with it. if you have verdicare on hand it would not hurt the coin any more than it already is

I'm still at AU details (cleaned/ED)

Looks to have an old, light cleaning. The spots of verdigris don't look too far advanced yet, medium to heavy range as best as I can tell from the pictures. VC would help.

Here is the coin after about a 6 to 7 hour soak in Vericare.

there is nothing you can do at this point to save it. the coin is corroded. the only saving grace is that its a common coin.
