That hazy quality to the fields seems to happen when the light source is parallel to the camera axis. I believe it is the mirror fields reflecting the light through the toning. As our photo pros recently enlightened me, if you want the proof fields to look black, you need to either have the camera at a considerable distance from the coin, or have the light source at an angle slightly higher than perpendicular to the fields (and the camera axis).
