...one of my "pet" cobs, obviously a bad day at the mint (lol) ... double struck obv. & rev, but assayer's initial, "Y" plainly visible ... Diego de Ybarbouru, 1701 - 1727 ... as to the date, (...Pareidolia aside, lol...) I can make out a 7 (2nd numeral) & a 5 (4th numeral) of the date (1) 7 (?) 5 ... three possibilities for the third numeral: 0, 1, or 2 ... I'm guessing 0, for a date of 1705 ... can anyone familiar with these coins make out what the 3rd numeral is?...thanks for any help ...

That's the best guess. Potosi 17-aughts dates (170_... maybe to early 1710s) are rather notorious for strikes like this - fat-in-the-center planchets with resultantly little peripheral detail, double striking or both.

Visually, as well, it does look like 7 0 5.

@Dearborn ... a lot of cobs suffer lack of detail, as they were being "knocked out" as rapidly as possible, with little attention to how much detail was present ... correct weight & purity of content were more important. The cobs were produced as an easy way to use in trade, & to divide & tax the silver, ... few of the larger denominations (4s & 8s) were used in circulation ... a good majority of these cobs were loaded into barrels, & shipped back to Spain for the purpose of being melted, & the silver used for various needs. Lack of complete details makes for a most challenging attempt in identifying them ... this, & the uniqueness of each one is what attracts a lot of collectors in limited field ...
