Hi. This is my 1st post. My son was given this quarter as change, and we are wondering if it's worth anything. If so, how much would it be worth? I've searched and haven't seen one like this. Thank you for any help.

@jd5, first welcome to CCF. Second, rather than a mint error, this more like a so-called "vise job" to me--someone has purposefully damaged this quarter in an attempt to make it look like a mint error.

"Creative" damage, and not in a good way.

So, someone did this after it was minted? How would they get the die to strike the back of the coin onto the front? Did someone at the mint have to go and put it back under the machine?

Jd53299,

Not a mint error,PMD.
It was squeezed in a bench vise.

They didn't. Somebody stacked two coins and whacked them with a hammer or squeezed them in a vice.

To CCF! It's a vise job. PMD. Not an error. https://www.error-ref.com/squeeze-j...-garage-job/

Notice how the letters are backwards on that 'second' impression - a tell-tale sign it was home-made.
