Hello everyone. Hoping I could get someone's opinion as to what happened to this penny. It's weight is 2.3 grams, is a rum smaller than regular penny and Is 1 1/4 times thicker than regular penny. Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like that poor cent spent some time in a dryer, and got post mint damaged, so not a mint error...

Thanks mrwhatisit. So this happens when a coin is caught behind the drum?

Pretty much. Imagine one has a few coins in your pants pockets and a few of them fall out during the drying process. The continual spinning of the dryer bangs such coins about to what we see here.

I was thinking "Incomplete Plating".

Then, I did a Google Images search on "Dryer Penny", and most of the images that came up looks exactly like your penny, .... including the raised rims everyone mentioned.

Looks like the verdict is guilty for being a " Dryer Coin".

I'm weighing in because "Incomplete Plating" pennies look like "Dryer Penny Coins".

Thought the "Incomplete Plating" error might be something you would enjoy researching, and adding to your coin hunting knowledge.

Cheers!!

1. Damaged
2. Horrible, blurry photos. Hold the camera steady or brace against something and gently touch the trigger, don't PUNCH it.
