I posted this coin a while back for opinions. I'm thinking EF45, maybe. The question is the die variety. I identify it as an N6, but I think it's die "a." In Newman's book it shows the outsized 2nd 5, the lump on the dentils below the second 5 and the line to the left of the base of the 1 as attributes of an N6. N6 is an R3 coin. In the rarity notes, the "a" die variety is shown as rare, with the "b" much more common. I believe this is an "a" die variety since I can see the horizonal line to the left of the base of the '1." Was thinking about selling this one, but now I'm not so sure - got almost nothing in it. Any Braided Hair folks out there? Love to hear your thoughts.

I have not seen that dash on many N-6 examples, it appears to disappear after a little Die Deterioration is introduced. The line appears bold on your example, so it would in fact fall under Grellman die state A.

Noyes makes no mention of the dash in the die state progression, although it is noted in the photos (and nearly invisible).

Thanks for the input. I think I'll hold on to this one for a while longer - a bit more unusual than I had originally thought.

Believe your attribution of N-6 is correct. Die state A looks right too. Very small group of die state collectors for later Braided hair cents IMHO. If one of those type collectors needed a die state A coin then your example is a pretty nice one.
