Hello everyone, I don't see many of these in Rome. This is for sale at a proper numismatic coin shop. Thoughts on grade would be appreciated! *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Are you sure it is genuine? John1

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought, too. It just looks off. The detail on the eagle is way too super sharp, particularly the feathers. The beak, the eyes, the claws, the olive branch—all seem to sharply defined. Those big silver Peace dollars have a soft look to them. But the patina on your coin looks very dull, almost leaden. Maybe very harshly cleaned?

This is a hard pass regardless

Over my head. I'll just monitor this one.

I am going to backtrack my comparison. When I navigated CoinFacts, I chose 1921 High Relief. But apparently when you open Photograde, it just pulls up Peace dollars from 1923-1935. I didn't notice the dates, so I produced a poor comparison image. Apologies for any confusion it might have caused. It is apples to oranges, please disregard.

Is the weight 26.7 grams? It appears to be at least AU and well struck for a 1921. But there is none of the expected luster. It looks chemically etched, scrubbed or sandblasted. If it's real it's a nice hole filler. I'd value it at $100-200. Here's a reference obverse MS62 that is well struck. The numerals in the date look a bit different on the dealer coin.

It does look odd with the eyes though.. (I'm no expert on these either)

I'm going to agree with everyone with the slight caveat that this dealer posts terrible pictures. I've been to this shop and many of their coins look entirely different in hand. I'm still going to pass, for all of the reasons above, and the price of €330.
Thanks everyone

@benny, I haven't seen this coin in hand. The shop is a distance away from where I live and usually not worth the effort because the prices for u.s. coins tend to be high retail.

Authenticity on this one is questionable.

Assuming genuine I would say low AU details cleaned. No trace of luster remaining.

Extra-fine, cleaned but genuine. The obverse hair detail, although lacking definition even in mint state, is more flat looking. The high points of the reverse also show slight wear. I would have passed on the price alone as well.

I'll say EF details, cleaned.
Errers and Varietys.
