Been bidding on this coin. Very nice example, but I do see some hairlines on the obverse, particularly in the right field. Reverse looks to be mostly untouched to my eyes. Not many of these struck and I do like the civil war era coins. Does this grade straight? Sure is a pretty one. Thoughts?

Sorry, your pics are too bright to show surface details well.

I'll be the devil's advocate and say it's an impaired proof worth $500 retail. As a PR64 it's worth triple that. As a 65CAM it's $3,000. I'd be careful. Looks to have obverse rubs.

Seller's pics. 30 day return. Those obverse hairlines have me concerned. Probably let this one pass.

You know better, these pics are purposely hiding surface issues.

Yeah, you guys are right. Darned shame, but I'm also not a big fan of this seller. I'm out. Curious to see what it goes for.

Tough call from these photos but there are many surfaces lines visible so I'm at PF-61.

To play it safe, I'd pass on it.

Early proofs were more routinely handled, but I'd be wary of buying such a coin uncertified without ironclad return privileges.

proofs are more apt to show marks in the fields however the lighting in this photo is attempting to hide quiet a bit of scratches. its a good thing it went over your limit

This dealer tends to not show areas of concern in their pictures. I generally skip looking at their offerings. That's why I was pretty lowball even though they offer 30 day returns.

Received, thanks. This dealer has a long-time reputation for doctoring photos and has been the subject of many threads here.

This was in my watch list as well. I'm always amazed at the pricing GSC realizes on their coins. Why I watch sometimes. Clearly they get a lot of eyes on their listings.

For that reason alone, I don't bid on their stuff, not to mention the often suspect pictures.
