Please share your stories about putting coins with obsolete designs into circulation. The same if you've ever tried to spend an obsolete denomination.
I'm mainly curious to know about people's reactions.

(NB: All coins ever minted by the United States mint since 1792 are still legal tender, no matter their date, design or denomination.)

As noted here in the past, I worked in a coin shop for many years and ended up with a sizeable amount of it's inventory when it closed. Included were thousands of cull Indian cents, V-nickels and Buffs. I've since spent all the nickels, but still put back around 2 rolls of low-grade or problem Indian cents into circulation every year, with a long way to go. I would happily give them away free to anyone who asks, but the postage costs these days are prohibitive.

Coinfrog, do clerks ever question the IHC design, as if it's not a real coin?

I've seen cashiers question whether silver certificates are fakes.

I release dateless buffs and wheat cents on a regular basis with hopes of sparking some interest in the hobby.
