Came upon this in a roll. The toning is very different having a golden oily sheen to it on both sides.

Really hard to capture the colors, but here's what I've managed to capture:

The bottom two are more exact. Really hard to get lighting right sometimes sincce I was trying to capture the oily gold toning!

Pretty much looks like normal toning to me. That coin is not one I would keep,but you collect what you like.

Could be an annealing issue and copper has migrated to the surface of the coin - or it was just lightly plated.

What is the weight of the coin?

I'm thinking subtle toning caused by exposure to environmental agents--not that uncommon. Bottom line--if you like it, keep it.

It's such a strange color-not bright silvery so it stands out quite a bit from the other quarters.
