First,I'll say, sorry I don't have a scan.
I just came back from a visit with my brother
and he found in change an aluminum Washington quarter 1972 or 73.
It looked like a legitimate mint product may be F-VF.
I didn't notice any difference in the detail with a standard quarter.
Could it be some sort of pattern?
Is there a web site to find out more about it?
Thanks for the help.

I cant say,
He is not a coin collector, just saves wheat backs, silver
and other interesting things he picks up.
Doesn't even have a scanner for a pix.
To much Tequila prevented me from asking to bring it home.
All I can say is it felt and sounded like Aluminum and
waide much less than a standard quarter.
Hope that helps

Not really... I am far from being an expert on Washington quarters, but I have not heard/read/seen anything about Aluminum Quarters. However, I am certain the the U.S. Mint used to make coinage for other countries (probably still does), and it's possible that an aluminum planchet made it into the wrong bin destined for quarter dollars. It is referred to as an Off-Metal Error, but we need more than just a story which involved "too much Tequila". Images and some specifics about the "coin" are a necessity!

success,
