I'm in the Army and currently deployed to Iraq. Some of the little shops around here sell Iraqi coins and I was wondering if anyone collected these. I never really messed with any world coins and would hate to buy something that would be considered junk. Thanks in advance!

I remember in 2003 when Iraq fell and the notes all came out, very nice, I didn't get one, but they went cheap.
I didn't realise that Iraq had coins, normally countries like that don't. I went to Egypt and the only coins I saw were at the airport and I wasn't going to buy them, you never know what you'll get. And they had 25 Piastra notes which were like 15 cents for a Pound, so almost down to a few cents for a note.
Even in Romania they don't have too many coins, they have 4, and went I was there I could only get the two most expensive ones, they just did not bother with change there too much. The Ukraine has a note worth 10 euro cents, so you don't get much for your coins.

Yeah, the old Iraqi government used a few coins. Pick up the ones with the Ba'athist eagle on them if you can get them-they weren't real common even before the war. Also if you can get banknotes with Saddam's mug on them, because they too are collectible. The Iraqi government collected up all they could lay their hands on and destroyed them when the new currency became available.
Good luck and stay safe, thanks man.

Thank you for your service, sir!
As of right now with the new currency, there's only 50, 100 and 250 dinar coins (or 25, 50, 100... can't remember) but I've heard those are incredibly rare because they've been issued but then immediately recalled.

During Desert Storm, Dinars were astronomical compared to the US Dollar. Now I wish I had kept some, but at the time I just wanted to get rid of everything with his face on it B.Wagner, welcome to CCF, and thank you for your service.
