Hey guys!
My grandfather recently passed away and he liked to collect coins. Well today I had nothing better to do because its rainy and wet outside so I thought I would go through these coins.
I came across this somewhat heavy gold coin I believe. I look on it and it's all in russian. Even the rim of the coin has russian letterring on it. It looks so wild!
Anyways to give more of a discription this is what I can tell you.
On the coin it says 15 pyeash 1897 r. On the back I assume its a russian president with russian words on it. Than on the rim it has russian letters and numbers engraved on it. It feels quite heavy and I assume it's gold.
Does anyobody know anything about this at all?
Thanks for your time.

The 15 Ruble(Rouble) gold coin you have was only minted in 1897... making it somewhat rare and worth more than it's gold content. Condition is everything. Do not clean, rub or polish this coin. Specs: 1897 Russia Gold 15 Ruble Diameter: 25 mm Gold Fine: .900 Coin Weight: 12.904 grams AGW(actual gold weight): 11.614 grams/ 0.373 oz. I know you are gonna want a value next... without a picture that would be hard to judge. Remember the condition issue. But to give you a rough idea gold is approx $30/gram rite now, so the coin is worth at least 11 x $30, and more if the condition warrants it. If I can find the mintage numbers, I will add them in. edit >>> wow!... everyone's quick on the draw today. I thought I was replying alone.

Place the coin in some type of holder(even a brand new sandwich bag for want of a proper coin holder!). Then search around here for acetone cleaning methods. Do not use nail polish remover! If in doubt, do nothing. If your coin is in almost uncirculated condition (aunc) you can pretty much double it's gold value.
edit>>> I don't know what country you live in but free photo hosting websites like photobucket(and many others) will allow you to add links to your pictures. If you want, you can send me the picture with the pm button(email poster) and I can post it for you.

THIS IS IN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING CONDITION!!
I can see the feathers on the eagle! It's pretty rare to have a coin so old in such high fineness in such great condition!
And listen to wheezy, don't ever clean, wipe, polish <<---- NO POLISHING!! a coin, especially a gold coin. If you do it, even with cotton, it will leave small scratches that are clearly visible under the right light and low magnification.
