I have seen on ebay a 1966 Australian 2 cent error with rolled edges and the seller states it is one of a kind. Described as struck without collar. It has a starting price of $50.00 and I was wondering if it might be worth this much, or much more but too scared to bid on it with my limited knowledge of error coins. The item number on ebay is [eBayItem]290311242410[/eBayItem] and title is ERROr 1966 2 cent ERROR. Could anyone please help with infor on this coin? Regards Peter

G'day & welcom,
strange looking frilly !
whatever it is, it's not "struck without a collar". If it were, it would be greater than the usual diameter.
It would be interesting to know the weight & diameter of the coin for sale.

Thanks Peter, I just messaged the seller and he has changed the description and added the info you were seeking. He told me it is the same weight as a normal one but only 20mm dia, not 21.59. I love quirky things like this, would you pay $50 for it?...Cheers

G'day, I wouldn't pay anything for it. These things are almost always post-mint damage.
Sooner or later, a forum-member will explain how a particular outcome was produced.
I suspect that some of our CCF members may have mis-spent their formative years, but at least they put the knowledge gained to useful purpose now ...

with Peter--I wouldn't pay anything for that one. It's post-mint damage--the proof's on the coin.
For instance, look at the lettering around QEII. Notice how it's covered up by the rounded rim?
The coin was struck normally, and then a machine or somebody has hammered down the rim and covered the design.

This is a good example to have here as reference.

Definitely post mint man made, so not an error.

Just a mutilated coin & worth exactly 2¢. I wouldn't waste any of my dosh on it!

Definitely post mint damage. You could make yourself one with a soft hammer, or even a spoon simply by tapping the edges.

Thanks guys and gals, I am now completely over it and have messaged the seller. He stated he had no idea and removed the listing from ebay. Cheers to all for saving my money...
