Not something I normally do at work because we don't have the time but I'm making time for this lot.
We bought a collection the other day and there were about 80 rolls marked "wheats". The boss always has me spot check these before I put them in bags.

So I do just that and get about 5 rolls into it and I'm noticing many older wheats mixed in with the commons we so often see. Told him I needed to look closer.

Went through about half before we closed and found at least 20 decent coins in the teens and the same with 20s and 30s. 1 solid roll of steel cents, a nice VF VDB and a solid VG 15-S. Also a 1902 Indian.

I'm so used to seeing the 40s and 50s that these rolls really surprise me. I'm thinking the lady that put them up (it was her daughter and son-in-law in their sixties that brought them in) actually may have just hoarded them with no real clue.

Like I said we rarely go through the wheats due to time constraints but this is fun even if they aren't mine.

If I recall correctly, he works at a coin shop!

Looks like you have some nice finds there!

So Clembo...lets talk.
OK, so how does your boss feel about mail order? I'd like to buy some bulk wheat cents.
I was going to send you an email, but it seems I can't.

SPQR,

Honestly I try not to get people to buy wheats from my workplace. Simple reason is that even if WE don't search them MOST that we buy have been at some point. Hence a majority of common date coins. Nature of the beast.
I'm sure some better dates have been found but on the other hand I'm not into disappointing people as is often the case with "unsearched" wheats.

I only noticed this batch because they were rolled and looking at overall wear patterns I figured many were older. Hence, my searching.

Many dealers salt bags to get repeat business. My boss isn't really into this. We buy them, we sell them and the bulk usually ends up in the hands of other dealers. I figure they then salt them and make a few bucks.

Just being straight here and that's how I see it.

Exactly the story at the coin shop I hang out in Clembo. 99% of people bring in common, searched junk. It's hardly worth the time to look at unless "special" circumstances dictate.
