Hi All:

New member and relatively new collector (1 yr).

In the past I collected mainly single coins - either from circulation or via purchase.

Now I've started to buy entire rolls. As an example, I recently acquired an entire roll of UNC 1943D steel pennies.

I've looked through each one carefully and would say that out of the 50, possibly 3 are in MS63+. The rest are all solid AU-50.

My question is, from a 'buy and hold' perspective, is it better to separate out the 3 MS and have them graded (and slabbed) or keep the entire roll intact.

I'm looking at this from a 30 yr perspective, not a 'buy and sell on ebay' perspective.

Any insights are welcome!

Welcome to CC!

They are not worth slabbing unless they can for sure hit at least MS-65+. IMO, you're better off keeping them as a roll. On another note, make sure you store those rolls properly! I've opened a lot of rolls only to find junk inside due to poor storage.

If you really have a 30 year perspective, then do this.
1. Buy three air-tites for $0.50 each. Put those MS lincolns in them
2. Wait 29 years
3. See where you are then, what the value of your lincolns is and then decide whether to have them slabbed
