This was in a bag of loose coins that was given to me many years ago.

After researching I figure the reverse has been
replaced. It looks like some I've seen which are engraved with initials. I guess they gave up.

Any thoughts?

There are a lot of people that alter coins for sentimental reason or wanting to remember someone or a special date in time. This is one way they can always cherish say a loved one. My Mother had the reverse of a beautiful silver eagle engraved with the birth date of my children and my sister's children. This is a way she chose to remember then. I collect coins so I think she messed up the coin but I guess to each his own.

Interesting. I had never seen one before and had no idea what it was.
