Hi
this is my first time on the site and I have little knowledge of coins or there value. I was given a bag of pennies and half pennies some years ago and today I have decided to look at them. The ones I have sorted are pennies and half pennies dating from 1912 to 1919. How do I find out the value and what is worth keeping and was is not

Hi Diane

Welcome to the forum !!

Im am a beginner when it come to the aussie issues myself,, but some things stay the same no matter which country the coins come from.

Value is directly related to condition !!
Do not clean the coins !!

Can you post pics of your coins a couple at a time?

We have some very fine folks from Australia here on the forum who can help you with these coins once pics are posted !!

Hello Diandrob....welcome to the CCF....

All our pennies and half pennies are worth a fair few dollars in the Uncirculated to Gem Uncirculated grades. Without scans or photos to look at, it is hard to give you an indication of what your collection is worth or which coins to keep.

There are a few avenues you can take, namely:

1. You can log onto ebay to look at auction histories and make comparisions with them and the coins in your collection;

2. Buy a copy of Greg McDonald's Guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes currently retailing for about $25.00. It is a very good book.

3. You can also post photos of your coins here for members to comment on. When doing so, make sure you take good photos of both sides. Do not post more than a couple each time.

A warm welcome to the forum.

Lim has summed it up for you, I would like to add one thing all depending on the condition of your coins you do have some good years there.
