*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Was this run over by a car or is it counterfeit? I have never seen a coin separating like this before!

Remember a clad coin is a copper core sandwiched with a layer of cupronickel on top and bottom bonded together. Excess heat can break that bond and show what your coin is showing.

looks like it clam-shelled.
Need better (larger) images of the coin (both sides please.)
It could be heat damage, but need the better images.

@war, first welcome to CCF. Second, based on the bubbling on the obverse, I think it was heat that caused this separation.

Added: also can you please tell us the date of this quarter? I'd like to add that info to the title. Thx.

Thanks for the replies! Now that I know how to reply back: coinsnap identified it as a 2017 P copper-nickel plated copper George Rogers Clark quarter. Photos attached.
