I want to find and submit a ms65 peace. This coin is raw. Does it possibly meet the criteria for ms65?

I'll say MS-64.

You have a great eye for good strikes on Peace dollars. That is a nice coin. Major hits to the face will keep it out of MS65 contention. That hit on her eyebrow and into the hairline most likely will hold it back. The field to the left of her face needs to be free of deep marks. Nothing on her cheek at all for a MS65. Maybe that chatter on her lower cheek jaw area could hold it back too. That's a MS64 for sure...maybe it could hit MS65 depending on the grader and the time and place...buts really a 64 coin. Just remember for Peace dollars, to hit 65, no major hits, nothing on the cheek and nothing in the left field.

I believe it has a shot at 65 and if it made it, would be low end for the grade. It's a $100 coin. I would not try for a 65 Peace unless it's a better date. Common dates in 65 generally don't have enough value to justify the grading expense.

The large gashes in the hair will hold this to MS-64.

A really nice Peace dollar for sure, but I can't get it above 64 either.

reverse is 65. obv has the luster for a 65 but those hits most likely are going to drop this to a 64. at 64 its not worth the cost at 65 its borderline. common coins really don't need slabbed. put it in an airtite and call it a nice coin.

If you want a 65 graded Peace, I would suggest buying it that way. I just sent in a Peace that was what I considered an easy 64 that came back as a 62

Quote: I just sent in a Peace that was what I considered an easy 64 that came back as a 62 trying to guess a grade that a TPG would assign to a Peace dollar seldom works out. I think they ignore a lot of the strike issues they have and look more at marks and luster. i don't think this one would come back less than 64 with a shot at 65 but in any case not worth the risk of grading costs to find out. if it came back at 64 consider a first time submission to PCGS where a subscription is $69, grading cost $23 plus ship and ins. both ways and you would have a coin that has a value of about $100 at best.

TPGs are tough on Peace dollars for some reason. As pictured I think it's a shoe in for 64 but 65 is always a crap shoot. But this coin is certainly good enough to be a contender.
