Completely new at coin collecting - enjoying searching for and filling in the Whitman coin folders. When one is complete is it common for folks to sell the folders? what would be a rough value beyond the obvious coins and folder valuies? for example a complete set of the Lincoln cents 1941-1974? been hunting aroud ebay and couldnt find anyone trying to sell them.
can someone help?
thanks
calvin

Welcome to the forum.

There is no real additional value for a set of cents just because they are in a Whitman folder. The most important factor in the value would be the grade of the coins themselves. And if they are higher grades, they would be better protected in a coin album (or in 2x2's, or in air-tites).

A coin album allows both sides to be viewed, and has plastic slides that cover both sides of the coins. One of the sets I'm working on is an uncirculated set of cents from 1959 to date...putting them in a Dansco album.

For the date range you mentioned, each coin would probably be worth less than a nickel each in an average circulated grade. But they are fun to find!

Try searching for 1941 1974 in Coins: US > Small Cents on ebay. You can pick up a nice set for $10-15 and could expect to sell one in that same range. Incomplete or poorly presented sets can go for less.

Here's a decent looking set that went for $11.50:
