Hi everyone,

New to the forum so hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm a new collector, by accident actually. I was looking back over a stack of half dollars I've accumulated, most of which are not in great condition. I came across two 1944 S walking liberties and the mint marks looked odd to me. I've posted a picture of each and the MM's look to be in different positions. One looks very near the 'alcove' of the reverse image. The other further away. I was wondering if this is normal or something else. Just curious so I thought I'd check in with this forum for opinions / advice. Thanks for your help. Danny.

Mint marks were hand punched on each working die back then so placement does vary. Within mint tolerance though.

Aye, mint marks placed (lovingly) by hand.
