Portuguese Bible plaques, set of four. Each one is a bronze rectangle 75 mm x 88 mm and 7 mm thick at the edges. The plain edges are numbered indicating that this is set number 41 out of 1000 sets. One side of each plaque has a bible scene and an allegory representing one of the virtues on the other. The four plaques are in a presentation case with a total weight on a bathroom scale of three pounds. The set is dated 1982. Anyone have any additional information on this set. I could not find anything about this set on the Lisbon mint site. Thanks

EVAZ was the signature of Euclides Vaz, a sculptor who also made many medals. He also did some rectangular ones about bible themes but this series was the 4 virtues.

I do not think they were made at the mint. Even if they were the mint does not offer information about what it produced. It is an old problem for collectors of medals here.

Thanks JECZ! These medals were purchased by Courtney Coffing while he worked for Coin World. They did a European mint tour in the early 70's but I don't know if he bought these from the mint gift shop or a private dealer.
