Whatever the date, damaged with an attempted puncture.

Are you saying that this is a no D Lincoln wheatback cent?

I think that the coin is too corroded to make that assumption. There are bumps and lumps in the MM area that could be remnants of it.

Not sure if it's the no D. Coin is too far gone.

Maybe a soak in 100% pure acetone might help. I am sure the pros who collect the 1922 no D and weak D can help you with your coin going by known die markers.

I see a damaged coin, no way for me to tell if there is/was a D mintmark.

Thanks for the images from multiple angles. It does looks promising.

You might start with determining the known MM locations on authentic 1922 coins and see if there any bumps in those areas that might be the remnants of a MM.

1922 "No D" in almost any condition will carry a premium, so good luck in your search. ANACS would be the most economical service if you determined it's authentic and wanted to confirm it. I go to local shows where ANACS sets up and by submitting there, it saves me even more on the shipping back and forth.

yep Pete makes a good point about a no D '22 cent - and as John1 stated - start with an acetone soak to see if it clears up a bit more.

also can you provide an image of the reverse of this coin too (it can be important in determining the Die pair used.

That example has been around the block a few times, unfortunately. Would love to examine the coin in-hand (but that won't be happening).
