...Found this years ago at an estate sale, so I have no real provenance...
...heavly worn, underweight @ 8.798g (possibly a counterfeit?) ... can barely make out the denomionation on the reverse ... note the proximity between the word "CENT" & the top of the wreath's ribbon ... any ideas or other identification is greatly appreciated

Very interesting. It does look like an early US Large Cent to me, so if you do not get much response here we can move it to the US Classic forum.

...that'd be fine with me jbuck ... only thing I can ID for certain id the "ONE CENT" & wreath... I thought maybe that the space between 'CENT' & the top of the ribbon may help ID which type & a date ... not my specialty, & would welcome any help ...

My guess would be Draped Bust Large Cent or contemporary counterfeit.
Could be enough wear and deterioration to account for 20% loss of weight.

"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

@thecoinguy1964 ... "It's toast" ... ... you're too kind ... it's beyond toast ...
...However, I like a challenge ... as stated, there's an extremely narrow gap between the top, right, of the ribbon ( bottom of wreath) & the bottom of the 'N' in "CENT" ... hopefully a knowledgeable collector will recognize this feature & possibly correctly ID this cent ...

...BTW, @thecoinguy1964, do you realize the difficulty of properly photographing toast?... (sorry for the poor pics ... this thing is rugged, but, I have one that's worse, believe it or not...)

Not worth anyone's time to go variety by variety for all the draped bust die marriages to match a reverse die.

If I had to guess I would say 1798 Type II hair by the lettering style and small fraction.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Shoot me a PM if you are looking to sell bust halves.
