Nearly every coin in the error collection I bought is correctly labeled. But even so, there are some that just aren't what they say. Or so I think. This one was labeled "Struck No Collar," which kind of can't be true as it would then be a broadstrike. The diameter is 19.1 in all directions so that is out. To me it just looks like a standard old buffer coin, maybe with some fine grain sandpaper as the weight is down to 3.03g.

Yup, just one an error collector got wrong. But with most of the collection correct, a couple mistakes are okay. Why? As while sometimes they are just a buffered coin, other times they are far better errors than the label indicates. "Wrong" can go in either direction.

I've never heard the term 'buffer coin' - but by the context of this thread I understand it to be a coin that was intentionally sanded down to lose detail.

Would some time in a rock polishing machine do something like this?
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
