Last year I was searching BU rolls of 1976 to find a higher grade example of the DDO Type 1 and Type 2. While doing so I also weighed every coin as I knew that the RCM was striking coinage for Barbados that year.

Admittedly, I was somewhat skeptical as I have been in the past when it comes to confirming this type of error as the Barbados 1c planchet was very similar in weight and size to the Canadian 1c planchets for 1976.

When I was weighing each coin that came out of the BU roll photographed below, I noticed that the majority of them weighed 3.24 - 3.28+ grams, until this one popped out, weighing only 3.11g right on the dot.

Fast forward to a few months ago, I had an interested party wanting to do a trade, however, me being thorough as I am, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night until I had it verified first before trading it off, respectfully, so I sent it to PCGS and after a very long 3 months wait, it came back as being struck on a 3.1g Barbados planchet.

Congrats, great find! Any idea how many have been found and how many might have been struck? The planchets are so close that I suspect the vast majority will never be identified.

Ball park value is around $300 - $500 I would say. I suppose it would depend on how badly someone would want to buy it, but since it is going into a trade with someone who has gifted me scarce varieties in the past, value is not something I was overly concerned about, I just wanted to make sure it was legitimate before trading.

It's hard to say, the only one I have seen that is certified is the example I sent in. There is a small chance someone else may have sent one in and has not said anything about it, but overall it would be one of those things where it would need to be high grade to be worth looking into, circulated examples that pop up are hard to determine as there are many things that can alter the weight and size.

One of the main reasons why I decided to send it in, besides ease of mind, was knowing it came directly out of a BU roll.
