Looks like it may be a 1982 large date. So much damage it is hard to tell. What does it weigh?

Found it in pocket change. It is in fact a 83! And it weight's an eye opening 3+ grams

Nobody is saying that you are trying to pull one over on anyone. Fact of the matter is that there is so much damage and the date is so obscured. Also the images are not very clear as well. IMHO it looks to be a 1982 large date which would explain the weight. I am yet to be convinced this is an 83, sorry.

If you can get a TPG to agree that it is a 1983, it would probably be worth slabbing

It's worth more than 1 cent...it's solid copper & at today's melt value, worth over 2.5 cents... Illegal to melt it, though...

US mint stopped using solid copper in 57. 1857.
It's a Copper Zinc mix (brass). At 95% If it were legal to melt it would be #2 scrap
