It's a very light grey almost white, didn't wash it off much just give it a quick wash at the lake and stuck it in my pocket. The damage must have occurred long ago, it was barely visible about six inches out into the water. My father and I have been picking up coins, stone artifacts and marbles. Sometimes it is hard to get any fishing done. Completely agree on the paradolia, same here, think I'll have one of those acetone baths as well. I see a large 54 on the side with the gouge, the gouge cuts into the five and a smaller 54 on the other side, I'm confident that is on it but the rest I can't say with confidence. When magnified it looks like there metal stuck into it that's what is making the rusty looking spot.
