Came across this coin and the obverse image looks to be the same design from ~1850-1915 with slight differences, it does say Republica Mexicana around the top edge. The reverse however has a wreath around the edge with a star up top. There is some damage/corrosion on the center of the reverse which I'm guessing is the denomination.

The coin is 15mm and weighs 1.38g and also has a reeded edge.

Thanks in advance for any help to correctly identify this coin.

Don't think it is a coin. Medal or token.

Certainly could be, but my thoughts align with @john1. That central circle could be from a removed loop, for example if this was a button originally.

The design or die does not match any coin picture shown in the Standard Catalog of Mexican Coins by KP. The weakness of the strike kind of makes me think it has Mexican Revolution local origins. Don't know if this was intended to be a button or was made into a button from a rejected coin.

A button or cuff link made to look like a coin, from the looks of it.

In the 1800s and early 1900s, it was fashionable to solder hooks and loops onto silver and gold coins, to use them for buttons and cuff links. An ostentatious display of wealth. Obviously, if you weren't rich enough to afford to throw away good money by turning it into jewellery, there were people who would sell you imitation coins to serve the same function. This is one of those imitation coins.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. I agree it's most likely not a coin. I've even seen some pics of people making these into rings. I'll hold onto it though just in case in a few years someone can tell me exactly what it was made for. Thanks again.
