Perhaps surface pitting / corrosion. Hard to tell from these pics.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

$149.00 seems like a very good price for any 1869 with that amount of detail left. It does have a tad amount of said minor environmental damage as coinfrog and others says above

Looks like some green - which is corrosion hence ED

I'm guessing a full, bright shot of the obverse would show considerable ED.

This one appears to be recovered from the ground, causing the corrosion, probably some time ago. Cool coin and nice semi key though.

very nice coin, hard to see the ED from these images.
Can you post up a close up of the coin? (not showing so much of the slab)

I see what Coinfrog sees, but it is subtle in the shadow of the sharp detail remaining on the coin.

I had an 1872 Indian cent that looked similar to this once. I was certain it was going to straight grade, then came up with UNC details, environmental damage. There is lots of detail, what appears to be minimum damage and that was a good price.

I want to see your pics when you get the coin!
