On the first date of issue, I purchased a roll of Susan B Anthony dollars. Then took it to the post office where they put the postmark on it showing the date. Is this worth anything or did I waste my time?

Not sure how much the postmark would add to the value. The OBW roll should be worth $40 or so. I'd ask $10 or $20 more for the postmark. Welcome to CCF!

Philly or Denver mint? You're not sitting on tens of thousands of dollars here, but it would appear you have a nice collectable--for those interested in 'first day' issue coin rolls. Sharp photos of the roll might be fun to see.

Out of curiosity, in addition to the mint of origin, what is the date on SBAs in this roll? 1979, 1980, 1981 or 1999?

Thank you one and all For your responses. I'm going to get the roll from my bank It is in a safe deposit box. I don't think I can see the mint without opening the roll. I will also take a photo and post it. Again, Thank you all for the replies! N

I agree with ijn1944--regardless of the value, it's a nice collectable. Kind of like a "First Day of Issue" for stamps.

I wonder if Post Offices would do something like that now or just look at you like you have two heads if asked to postmark something besides mail.

Hi Once again thanks for all the replies. I'm new here and you guys have really impressed me with all the replies I received! Thanks, again. I live in a small town and know most of the US Postal service employees here. However, I think that if you just pick a time when they're not busy and show some manners, I'm confident they'd do this. Costs them nothing and there's no real rule against it.

I wish that there's a way to see the mint mark as I've learned this makes a big difference. It could even have some mint errors, being it was the date of issue coins. which would increase the value I assume. I don't want to unwrap it as once that is broken, I can't get another postmark from that date of issue. It is a nice collectible as is. I wonder if the dollars are worth more than face value and then add a little for the postmark wrapper, as someone suggested.

Is it machine rolled where a face of each end coin is visible? If so and you are lucky enough to have the obverse showing on one or both ends, then the mint mark should be well within the visible area.

a nice collectable as-is. I'll come back when a photo is posted. maybe, if it is band or mint rolled the wrapper 'may' have the mint origin on it.
