I was going to toss this into the Wrap bucket for dispatch, but I thought I would ask about it first. There is a long, smooth scallop of metal carved into the rim. There's a little bit (maybe) on the exit point which makes me think PMD. But this is also a fairly weak strike. You can see the protorim bevel hasn't been obliterated into the squared rim shape by the strike.

Thoughts?

Yes exactly my thought--that smeared metal is indicative of this being damage.

Aye, PMD was my first thought. What I found visually strange about it is that there doesn't appear to be any scraping along the side. Normally if you move that much metal on a coin, the whole indented surface will have scratches and scrapes. Aside from the little step, both rim faces are smooth. Plus it was (relatively) a lot of metal to move, but the metal doesn't seem to be displaced anywhere.

For a holding cost of 5¢, I might tuck this one away in the Box of Mystery for future examination (and probable discard). Thanks, guys! =)

Snapped some photos at lunch. I can't say that illuminated anything more for me. Into the Box of Mystery it goes! =P
